About Bhutan

Officially Known as the Kingdom of Bhutan is a landlocked country located in the Eastern Himalayas; South Asia. The country Bhutan is bordered by India (In the East, West & South) and China (In the North).

It lies between latitudes 26°N and 29°N, and longitudes 88°E and 93°E. The land consists mostly of steep and high mountains crisscrossed by a network of swift rivers, which form deep valleys before draining into the Indian plains. Elevation rises from 200 m (660 ft) in the southern foothills to more than 7,000 m (23,000 ft). This great geographical diversity combined with equally diverse climate conditions contributes to Bhutan's outstanding range of biodiversity and ecosystems. In south Asia, Bhutan ranks first in economic freedom, ease of doing business, and peace; Second in per capita income, and is the least corrupt country as of 2016. However, Bhutan continues to be a least developed country. Hydroelectricity accounts for the major share of its exports. The government is a parliamentary democracy (Bhutan's political system has recently changed from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy). Bhutan maintains diplomatic relations with 52 countries and the European Union, but does not have formal ties with the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. Bhutan is a member of the United Nations, SAARC, BIMTSEC and the Non Aligned Movement.
